Rev. Jan Słomka is co-investigator of the project and full professor and leader of the research team on Pope Francis’ theology at the Faculty of Theology, the University of Silesia in Katowice. He is also a professor of Theology at the Catholic Seminary in Lodz. After his doctorate in Rome, he has been involved in dozens of studies in Christian patrology, emphasising the theology and spirituality of the Church Fathers. Since 2010, he has dealt with theology's methodology and its embedding in twentieth-century philosophical thought, primarily in postmodernism. The next stage of research (from 2016) is a study of Pope Francis' theology and its relationships with Emmanuel Levinas’ thoughts. He is the chairman of the annual scientific conference “Evangelii Gaudium” organized at the Lodz Theological Seminary under the patronage of the Archbishop Grzegorz Ryś.
